About ProFig
We at ProFig started our fig journey in 2014. What began as just a hobby quickly got out of hand, and before we knew it, we had hundreds of fig varieties. Our original goal was simple: find the best-tasting figs that could be grown in our area. After years of trial and error, we discovered some truly unique flavors—from rich black cherry to tart raspberry and everything in between.
What made our figs different? We happen to live in one of the few places in the United States where the tiny fig wasp naturally exists. This remarkable little insect pollinates certain fig varieties, producing what’s known as caprified figs. The result is larger, juicier, sweeter fruit with more complex flavors. While many people have eaten figs, very few have experienced a properly caprified fig.
In 2018, after sharing photos of our figs online through Facebook and gardening forums, we were flooded with requests for fresh fruit. The challenge was that no one had really figured out how to ship fully ripe figs successfully. We spent countless hours experimenting with packaging and shipping methods until, in 2019, we developed a process that worked. The response was incredible, and we knew it was time to grow.
Unfortunately, COVID changed everything. Soon after, the invasive Black Fig Fly arrived in California, making it no longer practical or responsible to ship fresh figs across the country. Today, our fresh figs are available for local pickup only through our website during the harvest season.
Today, ProFig has expanded far beyond figs. While premium fig trees, fig cuttings, fresh figs, and our tissue-cultured fruiting and tropical plants remain at the heart of what we do, we’re excited to soon be bringing back our ProFig fig jams—fingers crossed! Our collection now includes bananas, blackberries, blueberries, raspberries, mulberries, passionfruit, kiwifruit, pomegranates, dragon fruit, pineapples, vanilla, sugarcane, bay laurel, ornamental plants, and many other unique edible varieties. We’re constantly adding new plants so gardeners across the country can grow something truly special.
Thank you for supporting our family-owned nursery. We look forward to helping you grow!
