Napolitana Blanca Fig Cutting

Type: Common Fig (Does Not Require Pollination)

About This Variety

Napolitana Blanca is a historic Italian fig variety that originated in Naples, Italy, before finding a second home in Spain, particularly throughout the Balearic Islands. This heirloom fig has been cultivated for generations and is valued for its large fruit, reliable productivity, and excellent drying qualities.

The fruit is large and attractive with light green to yellow-green skin and a beautiful red to pink interior. The figs are typically round to slightly urn-shaped and develop a soft texture when fully ripe. The thin skin peels easily, making them especially enjoyable for fresh eating.

Napolitana Blanca produces a deep red pulp with a pleasant berry flavor. While the fresh fruit offers a mild and enjoyable berry profile, many growers believe the flavor becomes even richer and more concentrated when the figs are dried. This excellent drying quality is one reason the variety has remained popular for generations.

Unlike many dual-crop figs, Napolitana Blanca is a unifera variety, producing a single main crop each season. The crop typically ripens from mid-August through mid-September, providing reliable harvests during the heart of fig season.

The tree is vigorous and productive, developing an open, spreading canopy capable of producing abundant crops once established. It performs best in fertile, well-drained soils and responds well to regular care and maintenance.

As a common fig, Napolitana Blanca does not require pollination and produces fruit reliably in areas where the fig wasp is not present.

Historically, the variety was often grown for drying and livestock feed, but modern collectors have rediscovered its value as a productive heirloom fig with excellent fruit quality and attractive appearance.

Its combination of Italian heritage, large fruit size, productivity, and excellent drying characteristics has helped establish Napolitana Blanca as a worthwhile addition to both collector orchards and home gardens.

For growers seeking a productive heirloom fig with large fruit, red pulp, and excellent drying potential, Napolitana Blanca is an excellent addition to any collection.

Recommended Growing Zones

USDA Zones 7-11

  • Large green-skinned fruit
  • Red to pink interior
  • Pleasant berry flavor
  • Excellent for drying
  • Productive single-crop variety
  • Vigorous growth habit
  • Common fig requiring no pollination

Don’t let the growing zones discourage you. Fig trees can be successfully grown in containers and many growers enjoy fresh figs well outside the recommended zones. Growing in a pot allows you to move the tree to a protected location during winter and control its size. With proper care and winter protection, many fig varieties can be grown and fruited outside their listed growing zones.

You Will Receive

  • One unrooted fig cutting
  • Approximately 6-8 inches long
  • Minimum of 3 buds (nodes)
  • Thickness will typically range from Sharpie-marker size or larger unless otherwise noted in the listing
  • Taken from a healthy, mature tree

Seasonal Appearance

During the winter months, cuttings will typically be fully dormant.

During the fall, cuttings may still be lignified (hardened woody growth) and may not yet be fully dormant. This is normal and does not affect their ability to root.

Wood color, thickness, bud spacing, and appearance will naturally vary from cutting to cutting. Certain varieties naturally produce thinner or thicker wood than others.

Rooting Instructions

Rooting instructions are included in the listing photos. Please review them before purchasing.

Propagation Disclaimer

Rooting success depends on many factors including temperature, humidity, rooting method, growing medium, sanitation, and grower experience.

While fig cuttings are generally considered easy to propagate, no rooting success can be guaranteed. Even experienced growers may experience occasional losses.

Most growers can expect a rooting success rate of approximately 60% to 80% under proper conditions. Individual results may vary.

Because rooting conditions are beyond our control after delivery, we cannot offer refunds, replacements, or credits for cuttings that fail to root.
