Rarest of Rare Hilo Hawaiian Sugarcane Plant
Hilo is by far the most sought after, ornamental sugarcane. Even the flavor and texture differs greatly from other varieties, in a good way. When mature, the colorful ballooning nodes contain airy, cotton-candy-like sweet fibers that seem to melt in your mouth. Growing to 8 feet, Hilo is certainly a must have sugarcane. The flavor is awesome and my kids love the taste. This is our second year growing them and it won’t be the last. Cuttings are almost impossible to find, and I was lucky enough to be at the right place at the right time. Thanks, you know who you are! They are so easy to root anyone can do it! They are sold by nodes, and generally you only need one node per cutting. The roots and the shoot come from only the node. So, because I want to make sure you get at least one plant these will be two node cuttings. They are just cut today and are about 3-4” long and dense. Zone 9-12 they are a perennial everywhere else more of an annual (although mulching can protect the roots.) I will provide instructions with each order. Cuttings will be similar to the pic.
