Type: Common Fig (Does Not Require Pollination)
Figo Roxo is one of the most beautiful fig varieties you will ever see. Originating from Portugal, this stunning fig combines incredible visual appeal with exceptional flavor, making it a favorite among collectors and serious fig enthusiasts.
The fruit is truly a jewel in the fig world. The exterior displays beautiful shades of purple and green, while the interior ranges from brilliant ruby red to deep royal purple when fully ripe. Few varieties can match the striking appearance of a perfectly ripened Figo Roxo.
Fortunately, its flavor is every bit as impressive as its appearance.
Figo Roxo produces a rich, complex berry flavor that appeals to growers looking for premium dessert-quality figs. The pulp becomes dense, juicy, and syrupy as the fruit ripens, creating a flavor experience that many consider worthy of the finest fig collections.
The berry notes are deep and sophisticated, making this a variety that is often appreciated most by experienced fig growers and collectors. The combination of sweetness, complexity, and texture has helped establish Figo Roxo as one of the standout berry figs from Portugal.
Another major advantage of this variety is its relatively early ripening season. Unlike many premium berry figs that require a very long growing season, Figo Roxo tends to ripen earlier, making it an excellent choice for growers with shorter summers or cooler climates.
The tree is productive, vigorous, and adaptable to both container culture and in-ground planting. Once established, it rewards growers with beautiful fruit that consistently attracts attention and praise.
In recent years, Figo Roxo has become one of the most highly praised varieties among collectors, earning a reputation for combining beauty, flavor, and reliability into one exceptional fig.
As a common fig, Figo Roxo does not require pollination and reliably produces fruit in areas where the fig wasp is not present.
Its combination of Portuguese heritage, stunning coloration, complex berry flavor, and relatively early ripening season has helped establish Figo Roxo as one of the premier collector figs available today.
For growers seeking a truly beautiful fig with outstanding flavor and excellent performance, Figo Roxo is an extraordinary addition to any collection.
USDA Zones 8-10
Don’t let the growing zones discourage you. Fig trees can be successfully grown in containers and many growers enjoy fresh figs well outside the recommended zones. Growing in a pot allows you to move the tree to a protected location during winter and control its size.
These are thinner grafting pieces and are best suited for grafting onto established rootstock. Experienced propagators may also attempt rooting using their preferred methods.
Rooting and grafting instructions are included in the listing photos.
Success depends on many factors including temperature, humidity, grafting technique, rooting method, sanitation, and grower experience.
Because growing conditions are beyond our control after delivery, we cannot offer refunds, replacements, or credits for pieces that fail to root or graft successfully.
Cuttings are carefully packaged to help ensure they arrive in excellent condition.
