Mussega Blanca Fig Cutting

Type: Common Fig (Does Not Require Pollination)

About This Variety

Mussega Blanca is a rare Spanish fig variety prized for its beautiful appearance, rich texture, and excellent fruit quality. Historically cultivated in Spain and preserved by notable European collectors, including growers associated with Figues du Monde, this variety has become a sought-after addition to many collector orchards.

The fruit is immediately recognizable by its bright green to golden-yellow skin and elegant elongated neck. Its unique shape and attractive coloration make Mussega Blanca stand out among other light-colored fig varieties.

Inside, the fruit reveals a beautiful amber-colored pulp with a soft, rich texture. The flesh is smooth, juicy, and highly enjoyable when fully ripened on the tree. While not as heavily berry-flavored as some dark fig varieties, Mussega Blanca offers a refined sweetness with classic honey fig characteristics that many growers find exceptionally satisfying.

The fruit develops excellent texture and flavor when allowed to hang until fully mature. The amber interior becomes rich and syrupy, creating a premium fresh-eating experience.

The tree performs exceptionally well in warm Mediterranean climates and has proven to be well suited for regions such as California’s Central Valley. Like many Spanish heirloom varieties, Mussega Blanca thrives in full sun and well-drained soil.

As a common fig, Mussega Blanca does not require pollination and produces fruit reliably in areas where the fig wasp is not present.

Its combination of attractive fruit, amber flesh, Spanish heritage, and collector appeal has helped establish Mussega Blanca as a desirable variety among fig enthusiasts seeking something unique.

For growers seeking a rare Spanish fig with beautiful fruit, rich amber flesh, and excellent fresh-eating quality, Mussega Blanca is an outstanding addition to any collection.

Recommended Growing Zones

USDA Zones 7-10

  • Rare Spanish heirloom variety
  • Bright green to golden-yellow skin
  • Rich amber interior
  • Sweet honey-like flavor
  • Attractive elongated neck
  • Excellent fresh-eating quality
  • Common fig requiring no pollination

Don’t let the growing zones discourage you. Fig trees can be successfully grown in containers and many growers enjoy fresh figs well outside the recommended zones. Growing in a pot allows you to move the tree to a protected location during winter and control its size. With proper care and winter protection, many fig varieties can be grown and fruited outside their listed growing zones.

You Will Receive

  • One unrooted fig cutting
  • Approximately 6-8 inches long
  • Minimum of 3 buds (nodes)
  • Thickness will typically range from Sharpie-marker size or larger unless otherwise noted in the listing
  • Taken from a healthy, mature tree

Seasonal Appearance

During the winter months, cuttings will typically be fully dormant.

During the fall, cuttings may still be lignified (hardened woody growth) and may not yet be fully dormant. This is normal and does not affect their ability to root.

Wood color, thickness, bud spacing, and appearance will naturally vary from cutting to cutting. Certain varieties naturally produce thinner or thicker wood than others.

Rooting Instructions

Rooting instructions are included in the listing photos. Please review them before purchasing.

Propagation Disclaimer

Rooting success depends on many factors including temperature, humidity, rooting method, growing medium, sanitation, and grower experience.

While fig cuttings are generally considered easy to propagate, no rooting success can be guaranteed. Even experienced growers may experience occasional losses.

Most growers can expect a rooting success rate of approximately 60% to 80% under proper conditions. Individual results may vary.

Because rooting conditions are beyond our control after delivery, we cannot offer refunds, replacements, or credits for cuttings that fail to root.
