Tuvia Shehora Fig Cutting

Type: Common Fig (Does Not Require Pollination)

About This Variety

Tuvia Shehora is a rare and highly sought-after fig variety with origins in the valleys of Israel and Palestine. This unique fig later found its way to France, where it was preserved and cultivated on the island of Porquerolles by Dr. Rival at Conservasi. Today, it remains a prized collector’s variety known for its exceptional sweetness, adaptability, and fascinating ability to express itself differently depending on climate.

One of the most intriguing characteristics of Tuvia Shehora is its remarkable variability in appearance. In warmer tropical climates, the fruit may develop bright yellow and red coloration, while in North America it often matures into beautiful dark purple to nearly black figs. This chameleon-like nature has made it a favorite among collectors who enjoy observing how the variety responds to different growing environments.

The fruit is generally small, averaging around 30 grams, with a rounded shape and relatively thick skin. Despite its modest size, Tuvia Shehora packs exceptional flavor into every fig.

Inside, the fruit reveals a beautiful amber-colored pulp that is juicy, rich, and intensely sweet. The flavor is dominated by honey and sugar notes, creating a classic dessert fig experience. Many growers also detect subtle tropical undertones, with hints of guava and exotic fruit becoming more noticeable in certain climates.

The texture is smooth, juicy, and highly enjoyable for fresh eating. Its concentrated sweetness has helped establish Tuvia Shehora as one of the more desirable honey-flavored collector figs available today.

The tree produces attractive three- and five-lobed leaves and adapts well to a variety of growing conditions. As a common fig, it does not require pollination and produces fruit reliably in areas where the fig wasp is not present.

Although still relatively rare, Tuvia Shehora continues to gain popularity among collectors due to its outstanding sweetness, unique history, and ability to perform well across different climates.

Its combination of Middle Eastern heritage, honey-rich flavor, climate adaptability, and collector appeal has helped establish Tuvia Shehora as a valuable addition to any serious fig collection.

For growers seeking a rare fig with exceptional honey sweetness and a fascinating cultivation history, Tuvia Shehora is an outstanding addition to any collection.

Recommended Growing Zones

USDA Zones 7-10

  • Rare Israeli and Palestinian heirloom
  • Amber-colored interior
  • Intense honey and sugar flavor
  • Subtle tropical and guava notes
  • Common fig requiring no pollination
  • Adapts well to various climates
  • Highly sought-after collector variety

Don’t let the growing zones discourage you. Fig trees can be successfully grown in containers and many growers enjoy fresh figs well outside the recommended zones. Growing in a pot allows you to move the tree to a protected location during winter and control its size. With proper care and winter protection, many fig varieties can be grown and fruited outside their listed growing zones.

You Will Receive

  • One unrooted fig cutting
  • Approximately 6-8 inches long
  • Minimum of 3 buds (nodes)
  • Thickness will typically range from Sharpie-marker size or larger unless otherwise noted in the listing
  • Taken from a healthy, mature tree

Seasonal Appearance

During the winter months, cuttings will typically be fully dormant.

During the fall, cuttings may still be lignified (hardened woody growth) and may not yet be fully dormant. This is normal and does not affect their ability to root.

Wood color, thickness, bud spacing, and appearance will naturally vary from cutting to cutting. Certain varieties naturally produce thinner or thicker wood than others.

Rooting Instructions

Rooting instructions are included in the listing photos. Please review them before purchasing.

Propagation Disclaimer

Rooting success depends on many factors including temperature, humidity, rooting method, growing medium, sanitation, and grower experience.

While fig cuttings are generally considered easy to propagate, no rooting success can be guaranteed. Even experienced growers may experience occasional losses.

Most growers can expect a rooting success rate of approximately 60% to 80% under proper conditions. Individual results may vary.

Because rooting conditions are beyond our control after delivery, we cannot offer refunds, replacements, or credits for cuttings that fail to root.
