Black Madeira is still really the gold standard in great tasting figs. When pollinated they become even sweeter and juicier. They are encased in a thick chewy skin which prevents the figs from spoiling . Grows best if grafted onto a vigorous rootstock. This strain is strong though. Later fig does not require pollination.
