Description
One of my most rare, Unghiarolo. It is a very rare ancient fig that has a very unique trait. It forms a flap of skin shaped like a finger nail on the fig. The fig comes from from the collection of Paolo Belloni in Italy. I heard stories about it years ago . It was only a dream to ever acquire this variety. I wasn’t aware of anyone in the US having this variety. However in 2019 a very well known collector Mario RIP showed pictures of the ripe figs. They had the flap! And the best thing of all, it was his earliest fig! He’s in Connecticut. Ripens in August! Since his passing he has a family member handling his collection. I was able to make a trade last year with a friend of Mario’s. I planted the cuttings and I see the flap on the breba! So happy! Unique figs become very interesting after you’ve done this a while. I know a few others have this variety growing as well. Glad to see it being spread around. Closed eye 👁 and very early will be great! Does not require pollination .
