Crozes Fig Cutting

Type: Common Fig (Does Not Require Pollination)

About This Variety

Crozes is an exceptional French fig variety introduced by Thierry Demarquest of Figues du Monde and has quickly become a favorite among growers seeking outstanding flavor, cold hardiness, and reliable production. Often associated with the Mt. Etna family of figs, Crozes combines early ripening, excellent berry flavor, and impressive adaptability.

One of the most attractive qualities of Crozes is its ability to produce both breba and main crops, providing growers with an extended harvest season. The tree is highly productive and often produces clusters of fruit, making it a rewarding variety for both collectors and backyard growers.

The fruit is small to medium in size with an attractive drop-shaped form. As it ripens, the skin develops a rich purple color that may show light crackling, especially under ideal ripening conditions. Fully ripe fruit becomes nearly black and develops its best flavor when allowed to remain on the tree until completely mature.

Inside, Crozes reveals a beautiful deep red interior filled with dense, flavorful pulp. The flesh develops a rich jam-like texture and concentrated sugars that extend all the way to the skin, creating an exceptional eating experience.

The flavor is where Crozes truly shines. It delivers a rich berry profile with excellent sweetness and complexity. Many growers describe the flavor as intensely fruity, with some even noting candy grape characteristics when the fruit is allowed to partially dry and concentrate on the tree.

Crozes is especially valued for its cold hardiness. The tree performs well in climates that experience winter freezes and has become a popular choice for growers in cooler regions seeking premium fig quality without sacrificing reliability.

The tree is vigorous, roots easily, and adapts well to both container growing and in-ground planting. Once established, it becomes highly productive and dependable year after year.

As a common fig, Crozes does not require pollination and reliably produces fruit in areas where the fig wasp is not present.

Its combination of French heritage, early ripening, exceptional berry flavor, cold hardiness, and heavy production has helped establish Crozes as one of the finest modern collector varieties available.

For growers seeking a productive, cold-hardy fig with outstanding berry flavor, Crozes is an excellent addition to any collection.

Recommended Growing Zones

USDA Zones 6-10

  • French variety introduced by Thierry Demarquest
  • Member of the Mt. Etna family
  • Produces breba and main crops
  • Rich purple skin
  • Deep red interior
  • Sweet berry flavor
  • Candy grape notes when dried
  • Early ripening
  • Excellent cold hardiness
  • Common fig requiring no pollination

Don’t let the growing zones discourage you. Fig trees can be successfully grown in containers and many growers enjoy fresh figs well outside the recommended zones. Growing in a pot allows you to move the tree to a protected location during winter and control its size. With proper care and winter protection, many fig varieties can be grown and fruited outside their listed growing zones.

You Will Receive

  • One unrooted fig cutting
  • Approximately 6-8 inches long
  • Minimum of 3 buds (nodes)
  • Thickness will typically range from Sharpie-marker size or larger unless otherwise noted in the listing
  • Taken from a healthy, mature tree

Seasonal Appearance

During the winter months, cuttings will typically be fully dormant.

During the fall, cuttings may still be lignified (hardened woody growth) and may not yet be fully dormant. This is normal and does not affect their ability to root.

Wood color, thickness, bud spacing, and appearance will naturally vary from cutting to cutting. Certain varieties naturally produce thinner or thicker wood than others.

Rooting Instructions

Rooting instructions are included in the listing photos. Please review them before purchasing.

Propagation Disclaimer

Rooting success depends on many factors including temperature, humidity, rooting method, growing medium, sanitation, and grower experience.

While fig cuttings are generally considered easy to propagate, no rooting success can be guaranteed. Even experienced growers may experience occasional losses.

Most growers can expect a rooting success rate of approximately 60% to 80% under proper conditions. Individual results may vary.

Because rooting conditions are beyond our control after delivery, we cannot offer refunds, replacements, or credits for cuttings that fail to root.
