Description
Mig Paratjal Fig Cutting
Type: Common Fig (Does Not Require Pollination)
About This Variety
Mig Paratjal is a highly regarded fig variety originating from Mallorca in Spain’s Balearic Islands. Introduced and preserved by renowned fig collector Montserrat Pons, this exceptional variety is considered part of the historic Paratjal family of figs and is valued for its beautiful fruit, long harvest season, and excellent eating quality.
Mig Paratjal is a bifera variety, producing both an early breba crop and a productive main crop. This extended harvest season makes it particularly desirable for growers who want fresh figs over a longer period. The breba crop begins ripening in late June, while the main crop continues from late August through October.
The fruit is medium-sized and attractive, typically spherical to slightly conical in shape. The skin displays a dark green background covered with a light whitish bloom and small white speckles. Fine longitudinal cracks and prominent ribs give the fruit a distinctive Mediterranean appearance.
Inside, the fruit reveals a beautiful deep red interior with a juicy texture and outstanding sweetness. The flavor is rich and satisfying, combining berry and jam-like characteristics that make it an excellent fresh-eating fig. While the breba crop is generally lighter in flavor, the main crop develops exceptional sweetness and complexity.
Mig Paratjal is particularly appreciated for its ability to hold well on the tree while ripening. The extended harvest season allows growers to enjoy fruit over several months rather than during a short concentrated window.
The tree exhibits medium to strong vigor with a spreading canopy that performs well in home orchards and gardens. Once established, it is productive, easy to maintain, and adapts well to Mediterranean-style growing conditions.
As a common fig, Mig Paratjal does not require pollination and reliably produces fruit in areas where the fig wasp is not present.
Its combination of Mallorcan heritage, beautiful fruit, long harvest season, and excellent berry flavor has helped establish Mig Paratjal as a highly desirable variety among collectors and home growers alike.
For growers seeking a productive Spanish fig with an extended harvest season and rich berry flavor, Mig Paratjal is an excellent addition to any collection.
Recommended Growing Zones
USDA Zones 7-10
- Produces both breba and main crops
- Extended harvest season
- Deep red interior
- Sweet berry and jam-like flavor
- Productive and vigorous
- Common fig requiring no pollination
- From the Montserrat Pons (MP) collection
Don’t let the growing zones discourage you. Fig trees can be successfully grown in containers and many growers enjoy fresh figs well outside the recommended zones. Growing in a pot allows you to move the tree to a protected location during winter and control its size. With proper care and winter protection, many fig varieties can be grown and fruited outside their listed growing zones.
You Will Receive
- One unrooted fig cutting
- Approximately 6-8 inches long
- Minimum of 3 buds (nodes)
- Thickness will typically range from Sharpie-marker size or larger unless otherwise noted in the listing
- Taken from a healthy, mature tree
Seasonal Appearance
During the winter months, cuttings will typically be fully dormant.
During the fall, cuttings may still be lignified (hardened woody growth) and may not yet be fully dormant. This is normal and does not affect their ability to root.
Wood color, thickness, bud spacing, and appearance will naturally vary from cutting to cutting. Certain varieties naturally produce thinner or thicker wood than others.
Rooting Instructions
Rooting instructions are included in the listing photos. Please review them before purchasing.
Propagation Disclaimer
Rooting success depends on many factors including temperature, humidity, rooting method, growing medium, sanitation, and grower experience.
While fig cuttings are generally considered easy to propagate, no rooting success can be guaranteed. Even experienced growers may experience occasional losses.
Most growers can expect a rooting success rate of approximately 60% to 80% under proper conditions. Individual results may vary.
Because rooting conditions are beyond our control after delivery, we cannot offer refunds, replacements, or credits for cuttings that fail to root.
